from Chairboys WebSite (Saturday 23rd January 2010)

West Ham loanee Josh Payne scored on his Wanderers debut as Gary Waddock's side drew 1-1 at Southend United on Saturday. Payne struck from outside the box on 64 minutes to draw the scores level after Alan McCormack had given the home side the lead four minutes earlier when he headed home from close range. Payne was in the starting line-up in place of the Jon-Paul Pittman who cried off pre-match with a groin strain.

Dean Keates in for loan expired Scott Davies and Kevin Betsy in favour of Stuart Green were the other changes to the starting line-up for Wycombe. Following Payne's equaliser, both sides had chances to take all the three points with Matt Harrold missing a great chance on 77 minutes with a header from inside the penalty area for Wycombe. Wanderers remain second bottom in the table with the next game away to Bristol Rovers next Saturday (30th January).

Wycombe: Shearer, Woodman, Hinshelwood, Mousinho, Westwood, Hunt, Betsy, Keates, Beavon, Harrold, Payne (sub 82 Phillips)
subs not used: Arnold, Oliver, Green, Fitchett, Harris (only 6 subs named)

WYCOMBE 1 CHARLTON 2

Matches 2009/10Posted by Committte Members Tue, January 26, 2010 21:01:31
from Chairboys WebSite (Saturday 16th January 2010)

Wanderers were plunged deeper into relegation trouble following a 2-1 reverse at home to Charlton on Saturday.

The result leaves Wycombe still six points adrift from a place outside the relegation zone and having played up to four games more than their closest rivals. Promotion chasing Charlton, making their first ever competitive appearance at Adams Park, came up against a Wanderers side where Stuart Green was brought into the starting line-up to replace the departed Tommy Doherty.

Gary Waddock's side made an encouraging start and should have been ahead in the 6th minute when Stuart Beavon ran from midfield only to pull his final shot wide of the left hand upright from around 12 yards. Jon-Paul Pittman also fired wide moments later from a Scott Davies assist but all that good work was undone in the 11th minute when Jonjo Shelvey struck past Scott Shearer after Nicky Bailey's cross from the left had been helped on by Lloyd Sam.

The visitors then began to take control of the game and came close to doubling their lead on several occasions in spells either side of the break. However, after Shearer had turned a on loan Reading striker David Mooney's effort around the post just before the hour mark, Wanderers levelled. The goal came after a move down the right channel was pulled back into the box by Green where Pittman managed to swivel and fire the ball into the Valley End net.

The result could then have gone either way but it was more erractic defending from the Wanderers that cost them dear again - this time after Shearer had saved from close from Shelvey at his left hand post only for Woodman to clear into a Charlton player and for the ball to come back across the face of the goal, failed to be cleared again and then Bailey to fire home from the opposite side of the goal. It was another crushing blow for Gary Waddock's side who are now facing a massive challenge to avoid the drop. Next match away to Southend United on Saturday (23rd January).

Wycombe: Shearer, Woodman, Hinshelwood, Mousinho, Westwood, Hunt, Green (sub 65 Betsy), Davies, Beavon (sub 65 Phillips), Harrold, Pittman
subs not used: Young, Oliver, Fitchett, Harris, (only 6 subs named)

LEEDS UNITED 1 WYCOMBE 1

Matches 2009/10Posted by Committte Members Tue, January 26, 2010 20:59:31
from Chairboys WebSite (Saturday 9th January 2010)

Jon-Paul Pittman's equaliser on 63 minutes earned Wanderers a deserved 1-1 draw at runaway League One leaders Leeds United on Saturday. Wanderers began the day 38 points behind the former giants who were also on a high following their 1-0 FA Cup victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford six days previous.

And it looked omimous for Gary Waddock's side when Jonny Howson fired the home side ahead in the third minute with a low angled shot from the left channel that bounced over the dive of Scott Shearer. But Wycombe responded with a gutsy performance that delighted the travelling contingent that had braved the winterery conditions in order to witness Wanderers first ever visit to Elland Road.

Pittman struck a dipping shot from the left against the opposite upright on 7 minutes, while a Scott Davies corner from the right was deflected against the far post on 12 minutes. Wycombe survived a scare just before the break when Bradley Johnson's header was cleared off the line by Lewis Hunt but it was a rare attack from the home side. Wanderers' reward finally came in the second-half when Davies' sweeping past from midfield found Pittman on the left wing who cut inside his man before sending in a low shot that nestled into the opposite corner of the Leeds net.

It was nothing less than Wycombe deserved and it could have even been three points had a low cross not been cut out as Matt Harrold waited in the centre. Despite the point, Wycombe remain second from bottom in the table and having played more games than the clubs above them will need a remarkable run of results to drag themselves away from the relegation zone, starting with the home game against Charlton Athletic on Saturday 16th January.

Wycombe: Shearer, Woodman, Hinshelwood, Mousinho, Westwood, Hunt, Doherty, Davies, Beavon, Harrold, Pittman
subs not used: Bloomfield, Green, Young, Oliver, Phillips (only 5 subs named)

WYCOMBE 0 NORWICH 1

Matches 2009/10Posted by Committte Members Thu, January 07, 2010 09:50:05

from Chairboys Website (Saturday 2nd January 2010)

Wanderers completed a miserable holiday campaign after going down 1-0 to Norwich City on another cold afternoon at Adams Park. With new signing Adam Hinshelwood making his debut in defensive, Gary Waddock's side put in an improved performance but will look at more wayward finishing that ultimately cost them the chance of taking any points from the meeting with Paul Lambert's promotion chasing team.

Jon-Paul Pittman and Scott Davies were guilty of wasting several clear cut chances while Matt Phillips' struck an effort against the left hand Valley End upright before the visitors finally scored the crucial goal on 77 minutes. But while Wanderers missed chances, Scott Shearer was in top form at the other end to prevent another pounding for Wycombe's much maligned defence that had leaked nine goals in the previous two games.

Pittman had a good chance as early as the 8th minute when he fired high of the target and into part of the 2,000 plus Norwich following in the away end. Chris Martin sent a free-kick against the Wycombe crossbar on 36 minutes before Davies headed wide from 10 yards and then Pittman again perhaps should have done better. Former Wanderer Russell Martin, on loan to The Canaries from Peterborough, saw a dipping shot from the right tipped over by Shearer just before the break as the game remained goalless.

The visitors stepped up a gear in the second period but Shearer did a remarkable job to protect his goal. The turning point of the game came in the 76th minute when Davies sent through Phillips to the right of goal with just Fraser Forster in the Norwich goal to beat. The youngster looked to have done everything right but to the agony of the Wanderers followers in the crowd, the ball came back off the opposite post and to safety. With the crowd still buzzing, the ball was cleared to the other end where Wes Hoolahan squared from the left for an unmarked Korey Smith to have the simple task of firing home and delighting the away support. Wanderers had no answer and remain second from bottom in the table with a 9 point margin to get out of the relegation zone.

The next daunting fixtures are away to Leeds United on Saturday 9th January and then at home to Charlton Athletic on Saturday 16th January.

Wycombe: Shearer, Woodman, Hinshelwood (sub 60 Oliver), Mousinho, Westwood, Hunt, Betsy (sub 82 Harrold), Doherty, Davies, Phillips (sub 85 Bloomfield), Pittman

DAVIES LOAN EXTENDED

News 2009/10Posted by Committte Members Thu, January 07, 2010 09:49:08

from Chairboys Website (Monday 4th January 2010)

Wanderers have agreed a 12 day extension to Scott Davies' loan spell from Reading. This takes the loan deal to the maximum 93 days allowed by Football League rules for 'short term' loans.

Any further loan for Davies during the current campaign would have to a be a 'long term' loan for the remainder of the season and without the ability for Reading to recall the player. Davies has scored 4 goals during his 15 First Team appearances while at Adams Park and was due to return to Reading after playing the final game of his original loan spell in the defeat to Norwich.

BETSY BACK TO SOUTHEND

News 2009/10Posted by Committte Members Thu, January 07, 2010 09:47:14

from Chairboys Website (Monday 4th January 2010)

Kevin Betsy has returned to Southend United after his four month loan spell with the Wanderers came to an end following the meeting with Norwich City at Adams Park on Saturday (2nd January).

The former Wanderer returned to Adams Park while Peter Taylor was still in charge at Adams Park but was still a regular under new boss Gary Waddock.

Betsy is reported to be keen to extend his stay at Adams Park but Southend appear to want him to return. He told the Bucks Free Press, "Everyone knows how much I love Wycombe but I am going back to Southend where I will fight for my place."

WYCOMBE 2 BRIGHTON 5

Matches 2009/10Posted by Committte Members Wed, December 30, 2009 18:49:28

from Chairboys web site (Monday 28th December 2009)

Wanderers' season went from bad to worse on holiday Monday following a 5-2 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The latest calamity came after Wycombe threw away a 2-1 lead to ship four goals in second-half defensive nightmare for Gary Waddock's side. John-Paul Pittman had given Wycombe the lead on 26 minutes after he finished from the left of goal after the ball had pinballed around the Brighton box.

The visitors were level ten minutes later when Glenn Murray send an overhead kick past Scott Shearer butWycombe were gifted the lead again five minutes before the interval when Brighton 'keeper Peter Brezovan let slip Tommy Doherty's free-kick and John Mousinho was on hand to knock the ball in from close range.

With the two sides playing out a 4-4 draw at Adams Park in the FA Cup the previous month that was never likely to be the final goal of the game but the second half was a disaster for Wycombe. Nicky Forster levelled the scores on 49 minutes when he made a clever flick to deflect Gary Dicker's low cross from the right inside the left hand upright. Murray then went on to add three goals to his haul.

The first came on 56 minutes when he headed past Shearer after Chris Westwood was left wanting. Craig Woodman will also want to forget Brighton's fourth on 70 minutes when his backheel let in Murray to complete his hat-trick. Many of the Wycombe fans in the 6,000 plus crowd has already left when Shearer misjudged a Dean Cox cross to allow Murray to head into a empty net on 80 minutes for his fourth and Brighton's fifth of the day.

Predictably Gary Waddock described the performance as 'unacceptable' in his post match press conference and now turns his attention to Saturday's intriguing looking meeting with Norwich City at Adams Park and possible activity in the January transfer window.

Wycombe: Shearer, Woodman, Oliver, Mousinho, Westwood, Hunt (sub 44 Phillips), Betsy, Doherty, Davies, Beavon (sub 60 Bloomfield), Pittman

Matches 2009/10Posted by Committte Members Wed, December 30, 2009 18:47:15
from Chairboys web site (Saturday 26th December 2009)
Wanderers crashed 4-0 at Yeovil Town on Boxing Day to remain second from bottom in 'League One'.

The latest set-back came after Gary Waddock made just one change from the side that drew with Oldham seven days previous - John-Paul Pittman replacing the suspended John Akinde. After a bright start Wanderers fell behind in the 37th minute when Keiran Murtagh struck home from the edge of the box.

Wycombe then conceeded twice inside three second half minutes, JP Kalala striking on 72 minutes and Jonathan Obika making into 3-0 moments later. The nightmare was complete on 87 minutes when Sam Williams slotted past Scott Shearer from six yards. 16 year old Youth Teamer Kadeem Harris made his First Team debut for the Wanderers having come on as a 78th minute substitute. Next game for Wanderers at home to Brighton on Monday (28th December).

Wycombe: Shearer, Woodman, Oliver, Mousinho (sub 78 Harris), Westwood, Hunt, Betsy, Doherty, Davies, Phillips (sub 63 Beavon), Pittman (sub 73 Harrold)
